Wellbee is a Polish digital health company transforming access to mental health services through its online psychotherapy and personal development platform. Founded in 2020, the company connects individuals with licensed therapists, psychiatrists, and coaches via secure virtual sessions, offering users a convenient and stigma-free way to seek professional support from home.

With an estimated annual revenue of $5.5 million and a team of over 100 employees, Wellbee has become one of Poland’s leading digital health startups. Its platform provides access to more than 300 verified specialists and supports both individual and corporate clients through B2C and B2B models. Over the past four years, the platform has served tens of thousands of users and established partnerships with major corporate clients, including Canon, E.ON, and EPAM. Wellbee’s growth was accelerated by early venture backing from Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder, WP2 Investments, and bValue Fund, culminating in its acquisition by Benefit Systems, a major Polish provider of employee well-being and non-wage benefit programs known for its MultiSport offering and expanding digital health portfolio.

Challenge

Before partnering with DevsData LLC, Wellbee’s founders had a clear vision: to make professional psychotherapy accessible to everyone through an intuitive digital platform. However, turning that idea into a functioning product presented a series of substantial challenges. The company needed a strong technological foundation that would connect patients with certified therapists, manage appointments and payments automatically, and ensure full compliance with data protection requirements, all while maintaining a clean, user-centered design that would appeal to a wide audience.

The main obstacle was the absence of an existing system that could handle the complexity of these operations. Wellbee needed a solution that could integrate multiple external tools, including scheduling software, communication platforms, and payment gateways, into one seamless ecosystem. This required extensive back-end architecture, front-end development, UX design, and DevOps work – all of which DevsData LLC undertook from scratch to ensure a reliable and scalable platform. The platform also had to support therapists with automated processes, such as synchronizing calendars, managing session data, and calculating monthly payouts, while offering patients a straightforward experience of booking sessions and communicating with professionals online.

Turning the idea of accessible online psychotherapy into a secure, automated, and user-friendly platform required building a complex system entirely from scratch.

Our approach

From the outset, our team identified two essential goals: creating an intuitive and trustworthy user experience for patients, and ensuring seamless automation and scalability on the backend. To achieve this, we structured the development plan around rapid prototyping, iterative validation, and technical precision.

Drawing on our experience from previous end-to-end development projects, particularly Skillton, a large-scale eLearning platform built for a San Francisco startup, we knew that success depended on smooth cross-system integrations and efficient user flow design. The Skillton project has proven our ability to combine real-time communication tools, in-app payments, and cloud infrastructure into a single, stable system. Leveraging those insights, we designed Wellbee’s architecture to support multiple integrations at once, including calendar synchronization, secure video sessions, and automated payout mechanisms for therapists. Beyond execution, DevsData LLC advised on the choice of core technologies and the long-term development path, ensuring the platform would remain scalable, secure, and easy to extend as the business grew.

Our approach was divided into three core stages:

• Strategic planning and design – We began by mapping the entire user journey, ensuring that both patient and therapist experiences would remain intuitive, transparent, and secure.
• Technical groundwork – We outlined the system’s architecture to support scalability and future expansion, emphasizing API connectivity, a modular codebase, and cloud readiness.
• Iterative collaboration – Throughout the process, we maintained close coordination with Wellbee’s founders, refining every feature through short validation cycles to align technical capabilities with business goals.

This approach allowed us to move quickly while maintaining uncompromised code quality, delivering a minimum viable product that was both market-ready and prepared for long-term growth.

Execution and delivery

Once the scope was defined, DevsData LLC began developing the first version of Wellbee – a dynamic web platform capable of managing thousands of therapy sessions, automating internal workflows, and maintaining full data security. The team’s goal was to translate Wellbee’s vision of accessible psychotherapy into a product that could operate efficiently for both patients and therapists from day one. From the outset, data handling and patient confidentiality were prioritized, with strict access controls, encrypted storage, and a clear separation of sensitive records to ensure full compliance with healthcare data protection requirements.

A four-member DevsData LLC team was assigned to the project, comprising a Backend Engineer, a Frontend Developer, a UX/UI Designer, and a Project Manager. Each played a distinct role in shaping the platform’s functionality and experience:

• Project Manager – coordinated all communication with Wellbee’s stakeholders, translated business requirements into technical tasks, and ensured smooth alignment across development, design, and deployment phases.
• Backend Engineer – built the Node-based backend architecture and implemented integrations with Stripe and Google Workspace to automate payouts, synchronize calendars, and manage real-time therapist availability.
• Frontend Developer – developed fast, modular user interfaces using React.js, and Next.js, ensuring responsiveness, short load times, and seamless navigation across the platform.
• UX/UI Designer – created a cohesive design system that balanced clinical professionalism with a friendly, approachable visual identity while optimizing the booking flow for minimal user effort.

The engineering work started with the system’s backbone – a flexible backend designed to coordinate session scheduling, therapist availability, payments, and communication. We integrated Stripe to process transactions and calculate automatic payouts, ensuring transparent settlements between clients and therapists. To simplify the booking process, the platform was connected with Google Workspace, which allowed synchronization of therapists’ calendars and automatic updates of free appointment slots. The admin panel provided centralized access to payments, user data, and therapist performance metrics, enabling the internal team to manage operations with minimal manual work.

The frontend combined Vue.js with Vuetify for the user-facing interface and React.js with Next.js for specific interactive modules. This hybrid setup allowed for exceptional responsiveness, short load times, and modular expansion as new features were added. To support communication and analytics, DevsData LLC implemented integrations with Gmail, SendGrid, and Google Analytics, helping the Wellbee team personalize outreach and measure platform performance.

Design-wise, Wellbee needed to convey professionalism without losing warmth. A fully custom UX/UI approach was chosen because the platform required patient-friendly booking flows, therapist-specific dashboards, and a cohesive visual identity that off-the-shelf templates could not adequately support. The UX/UI process focused on reducing friction between users and the platform, ensuring that booking a therapy session required just a few clicks. After the final iteration, the product was deployed on the Google Cloud Platform, selected for its scalability, security, and reliable performance under high user load. All data flows – from session metadata to payments – were structured to ensure minimal exposure of personally identifiable information, reinforcing the platform’s trustworthiness and long-term regulatory readiness.

Key technologies

The result was an adaptable and automation-driven MVP that operated as a complete ecosystem: from scheduling and payments to communication and analytics. Its architecture allowed Wellbee to grow without interruptions, supporting new integrations and scaling to a national audience within months of launch.

Outcome

The collaboration between DevsData LLC and Wellbee resulted in a fully functional minimum viable product that quickly proved its market potential. Within just a few weeks, the platform was ready for launch, enabling patients to connect with licensed therapists through an automated, secure, and intuitive interface. The MVP successfully combined operational efficiency with user trust, positioning Wellbee as one of the first Polish platforms to bring psychotherapy fully online.

Following its release, the product gained rapid traction among both individual users and corporate clients. The integrated automation systems minimized administrative workload, allowing the company to focus on service quality and expansion rather than manual operations. Positive user feedback and strong retention confirmed that the solution met both patient expectations and therapists’ operational needs, creating a solid foundation for scaling.

The platform’s architecture supported new features, additional user segments, and integration of preventive health tools, all of which accelerated growth and investor confidence. This consistent growth culminated in 2024, when Benefit Systems, Poland’s leading provider of employee wellness and sports programs, acquired Wellbee. The acquisition marked a major milestone in the country’s digital health sector, uniting a technology-driven therapy platform with a large-scale benefits network. For investors, the exit delivered a tenfold return on investment, while for Wellbee, it opened the door to new opportunities in preventive care and corporate well-being.
