The role of an IAM Engineer involves designing, implementing, and managing identity and access management systems. IAM Engineer works closely with various teams to ensure secure and efficient access to systems and data. They are responsible for developing and enforcing security policies and procedures related to user authentication and authorization. Additionally, IAM Engineers troubleshoot issues, perform audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Typical duties and responsibilities

• Develop and set up identity and access management systems.
• Manage user identities and rights across numerous platforms.
• Establish and implement IAM policies and procedures.
• Monitor and troubleshoot IAM systems to guarantee peak operation.
• Collaborate with IT and security departments to incorporate IAM into existing security measures.
• Conduct frequent audits and compliance checks on access restrictions.
• Keep current with the newest IAM technology and best practices.
• Provide technical assistance and training for IAM systems.

Required skills and experience

• 3-5 years of proven experience as an IAM Engineer or in a related position.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of IAM technologies and protocols (such as SAML, OAuth, and LDAP).
• Experience with identity and access management technologies (such as Okta, Microsoft Azure AD, etc.)
• Experience with security and compliance requirements, including but not limited to:
  • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
  • SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
  • PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard)
  • NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) frameworks
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Nice to have/preferred skills and experience (not required)

• Certification in IAM or similar subjects (such as CISSP or CISM).
• Understanding of scripting, cybersecurity, and automation tools.
• Development experience with Python.
• Strong knowledge of IAM technologies such as SSO, RBAC, MFA, and directory services.
