General overview of the role

Android Developer designs, develops and maintains applications on the Android platform. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to define and implement new features while ensuring optimal performance, quality and responsiveness. The Android Developer must also identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs, continuously discovering, evaluating and implementing new technologies to maximize development efficiency.

Typical duties and responsibilities

1. Design and develop advanced applications for the Android platform.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
3. Work with outside data sources and APIs.
4. Conduct unit testing to ensure code robustness, including handling edge cases, usability, and overall reliability.
5. Focus on bug resolution and performance optimization.
6. Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.
7. Ensure code quality, organization, and automation practices are maintained.
8. Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
9. Monitor the performance of applications and provide support.

Required skills and experience

• 3-5 years of proven experience in software development, with a focus on Android.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven working experience in Android app development.
• Experience with Android SDK.
• Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON.
• Proven experience integrating third-party libraries and APIs.
• Solid understanding of the complete mobile development life cycle.
• Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or both.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.

Nice to have/preferred skills and experience (not required)

• Experience with Android UI design principles, Android Auto, Wear OS.
• Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.
• Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.
• Ability to design applications around natural user interfaces, such as “touch.”
• Experience with integrating additional sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers.
• Understanding of Google’s Android design principles and interface guidelines.
• Knowledge of Android’s architecture components, such as LiveData, ViewModel, and Room.
• Experience with continuous integration.
