General overview of the role

An ETL Developer designs, develops, and implements ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to efficiently move data from various sources to centralized data warehouses or databases. They ensure data accuracy and accessibility by collaborating with data analysts and scientists.

In addition to developing ETL processes, an ETL Developer optimizes workflows, troubleshoots data issues, and maintains data quality throughout the ETL lifecycle. They utilize ETL tools like Informatica or Microsoft SSIS and possess a strong understanding of database management systems and data modeling.

Typical duties and responsibilities

1. Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of IT controls, policies, and procedures.
2. Perform audits of IT systems, applications, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
3. Develop and execute audit plans and procedures to assess risk and control effectiveness.
4. Analyze data and system configurations to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
5. Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, recommendations, and action plans.
6. Collaborate with IT and business teams to address audit issues and implement improvements.
7. Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented effectively.
8. Stay updated on emerging IT audit trends, technologies, and best practices.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of IT risk management strategies.
10. Provide guidance and support for IT compliance efforts, including regulatory frameworks like SOX, GDPR, or HIPAA.
11. Review and evaluate IT policies and procedures to ensure they align with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
12. Maintain documentation related to audit activities, including work papers and evidence.

Required skills and experience

• Strong knowledge of IT auditing standards, methodologies, and best practices.
• Proficiency in auditing IT systems, applications, and infrastructure.
• Experience with IT control frameworks such as COBIT, NIST, or ITIL.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to IT (e.g., SOX, GDPR, HIPAA).
• Familiarity with IT systems and technologies, including databases, networks, and security controls.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively convey audit findings and recommendations.
• Experience with audit software and tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, or similar).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple audit projects simultaneously.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Accounting, or a related field (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in IT auditing or a related field.

Nice to have/preferred skills and experience (not required)

• Holding advanced certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, or ACL to enhance audit effectiveness.
• Understanding of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience auditing cloud-based environments.
• Previous experience in risk assessment or management, particularly in identifying and mitigating cybersecurity risks.
