Typical duties and responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain Ruby on Rails web applications, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness.
2. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to gather and evaluate project requirements.
3. Write clean, efficient, scalable code that adheres to industry best practices and coding standards.
4. Implement and integrate APIs, third-party services, and databases to enhance application functionality.
5. Perform code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to identify and fix bugs and performance issues.
6. Optimize application performance and scalability through effective code and database design.
7. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and Ruby on Rails development best practices.
8. Document code, processes, and best practices for future reference and knowledge sharing.
9. Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
10. Ensure application security by implementing best practices and addressing potential vulnerabilities.

Required skills and experience

• 3-5 years of experience as a Ruby on Rails Developer or in a similar role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in the Ruby on Rails framework and its ecosystem, including commonly used gems and libraries.
• Strong understanding of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines, such as Capistrano or Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Nice to have/preferred skills and experience (not required)

• Ruby on Rails certification or similar credentials.
• Experience with front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and services like AWS, Heroku, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and containerization (e.g. Docker).
• Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques.
• Understanding of test-driven development (TDD) and writing automated tests.
